Welcome to my web design showcase.
I have worked with different database systems such as Microsoft access, DB40, MYSQL and Oracle 11g. Learning Oracle has allowed me to develop my knowledge of SQL increasing my confidence to use MYSQL within other PHP projects. A project which I have recently completed was a forum in PHP which consisted of users, categories and topics. Within each section were separate tables that needed to be joined and related together.
I have become very interested in web 2.0 and the way web development in moving. Earlier on this year I developed a website www.jojosfacepainting.co.uk, although the website is relatively basic. It shows good use of web 2.0 and how it can be used to make a website more user friendly and responsive.
I have experience and an in depth knowledge of graphics packages such as adobe Photoshop, Gimp and Fireworks. My knowledge of Photoshop has grown stronger and stronger over the years as I have created websites, edited images and also worked on a few games in my spare time and for a university project, such as creating textures.
I have developed an understanding of more advanced tools and 3D modelling kits such as 3Ds Max and Maya. I have done a lot of projects at university also with multimedia packages such as adobe flash and also adobe director, including a group project where we had to create a small 3D game using 3Ds Max and adobe director.
Whilst studying at University I completed projects which required me to work as part of a team as well as independently. Both of these experiences developed my team work skills, confidence to lead a team, showed me the importance of time keeping and punctuality.
In one instance, I worked as part of a group of five students. As a team we had to create a software package for a hair salon company using Java. The software had to be able to add new supplier details, new products, hold the stock records and alert the user when stock were running low. We divided the project into stages where each individual would have a role to: design the user interface, database management and persistence, to create the controller and the model as we decided to use an Object Oriented approach using the MVC (model view and control) pattern, and one to write test classes to test the product before during and after it was developed.
A personal interest and hobby of mine has been in designing and building desktop computers requiring different Operating Systems. I have built pc suitable for gamers and general office staff. I've also installed dual operating systems on them so you can run different versions of windows and also Linux distributions.
Although I am trained web developer, I am also a keen artist in my own time. This I believe helps me in my web design work, especially when making highly graphic based websites. In my own time I am a keen painter, sketcher and also coloured pencils artist.
